Muay Thai is a striking art from Thailand known as the “Art of Eight Limbs,” using punches, kicks, knees, and elbows to build powerful, well‑rounded stand‑up skills. It’s one of the most effective striking systems in the world — and one of the most accessible for beginners.
At Honey Badger, our Muay Thai Kickboxing program focuses on proper technique, conditioning, confidence, and practical self‑defence. Whether you’re brand new or experienced, you’ll learn how to move, strike, defend, and train safely in a supportive, community‑driven environment.
Our classes blend authentic Muay Thai technique with modern coaching methods — infused with Coach Sean LaBute’s hybrid striking background in Muay Thai, American‑style Kickboxing, and Isshinryu Karate. This system creates a versatile, technically skilled martial artist — someone who can strike with power, move with precision, and adapt across multiple striking styles.
At Honey Badger Muay Thai, we honour the roots of traditional Muay Thai while forging a modern path for everyone who trains with us. Our style is based on Dragonleg Muay Thai, the system developed by 5‑time world champion Matee “Dragonleg” Jadeepitak—one of the most respected names in the global Muay Thai Kickboxing community. Our founder trained directly under this system, earning rank and guidance from Dragonleg himself, and blending that authentic Thai technique with decades of cross‑training in other striking disciplines.
For many years, our team was a central part of the coaching leadership at the Hybrid Training Academy, where we built and led competitive amateur and professional Muay Thai Kickboxing and MMA teams. That experience shaped a powerful curriculum—technical, intense, and battle‑tested through years of real coaching and competition.
The launch of Honey Badger Muay Thai represents a new, independent chapter built on that coaching experience. Inspired by the honey badger—an animal known for being small, fearless, strategic, and unstoppable—we’ve created a space where anyone, regardless of size, background, or gender, can train like a fighter and grow like a warrior.
We offer a structured traditional armband ranking system for all ages:
• Kids (Ages 5–11): A fun, disciplined program focused on confidence, fitness, and life skills.
• Teens & Adults (12+): Authentic Muay Thai technique, conditioning, and competition development for hobbyists and fighters alike.
Our team.
Our coaching staff brings over 70 years of combined experience in striking arts, coaching, and competition. And uniquely, the majority of our coaches are women—including champions, medalists, and internationally ranked fighters. This creates an empowering environment where women and girls can see themselves represented, respected, and leading from the front.
Our training.
We integrate over 30 years of black‑belt‑level Karate expertise and decades of American‑Style Kickboxing experience, adding unique elements of movement, timing, footwork, and precision that elevate our Muay Thai foundation. The result is a dynamic, effective, and technical striking style that honours tradition while pushing boundaries.
Our impact.
Our athletes have earned local, regional, and international titles, demonstrating the strength of our curriculum and coaching. Beyond competition, our founder created the Bully Busters anti‑bullying and youth empowerment initiative—featured on CTV—which uses martial arts to build confidence, resilience, and mentorship for young people.
We are built on tradition, driven by tenacity, and committed to real transformation. Rooted in the heart of Essex, Ontario, we’re more than just a gym — we’re part of a growing family of local businesses, proud to serve our community with world‑class training and small‑town grit.
